We seek motivated, detail-oriented students who are interested in learning about early social and emotional development while gaining valuable research experience. Undergraduate research assistants will have the opportunity to work alongside faculty and graduate assistants working with data collected through an infant wearable device. Undergraduate research assistants are needed to help with processing infant ECG or heart-rate variability data (to measure infant stress reactivity), annotating infant vocalizations from audio files (to measure infant distress and social interactions), and annotating infant physical posture/movements from video files (to measure infant physical activity and motor development). Students can earn PSYC 290 course credit for their work in our lab, and no previous research experience is required. We typically require students to commit to at least two semesters. We often have students who work in our lab throughout their college career and gain a variety of research experiences, including coding of mother-child interactions, administering developmental assessments, assisting with mother-child research visits, analyzing data, and presenting results at the Illinois Undergraduate Research Symposium.
We will be reviewing applications from August 30th to September 6th. Applicants will be notified via email by September 8th of decisions and next steps.
